In-Villa Massage in Playa del Carmen – What to Expect

An in-villa massage in Playa del Carmen works like this: your therapist arrives at your villa, hotel or Airbnb with a professional massage table, clean linens, oils, aromatherapy and music. You only need a quiet space of about 2 × 2 meters, and setup takes 10 to 15 minutes. Then you lie down, relax, and when it’s over you’re already home.

I’m Andreina, founder of Spa at Home Playa del Carmen. I’ve been a massage therapist for 17 years, and these are the questions guests ask us most before their first in-villa session. Here is exactly what to expect, from the moment we knock on your door until we pack up.

What we bring to your villa

We bring everything needed to turn your room into a spa. You don’t need to provide anything except the space.

  • A professional massage table, about 1.80 m long and 80 cm wide, so you’re comfortable during the whole session.
  • Clean sheets and textiles prepared for each service.
  • Aromatherapy to create a calm, relaxing atmosphere.
  • Relaxing music to complete the spa experience.
  • Thermal pouches and hot stones, with the equipment to heat them and keep them at the right temperature.
  • Professional products for each treatment, whether it’s a massage, a body scrub, a wrap or a facial.
  • Any accessories the therapist needs to work safely and adapt the session to you.

How much space you need

Plan for an area of about 2 × 2 meters for each massage table. The table itself is 1.80 m by 80 cm, and the extra room lets your therapist move around you and use the right posture for each technique. It makes a real difference in the quality of the massage.

Setting up takes 10 to 15 minutes, and packing up takes about the same at the end. If you’re booking a couples massage, we’ll need space for two tables side by side.

How to get ready before we arrive

You don’t need to do much, but a few small things help you enjoy it more:

  1. Take a shower before the session so you feel fresh and relaxed.
  2. Wait in a robe or a towel, whatever feels more comfortable.
  3. When we’re ready to start, your therapist will step out of the room so you can undress in private and lie on the table in your underwear.
  4. Once you’re settled, the therapist comes back in. During the massage you stay covered with professional sheets, and only the area being worked on is uncovered.

Your privacy and comfort come first at every step.

Hotels, condos and Airbnbs: access rules

This is the part that surprises most guests, so it’s worth checking before you book.

Hotels. Some hotels, especially those with their own spa, don’t allow outside therapists, or they charge an extra fee for letting them in. Ask the front desk whether independent massage therapists are allowed before you book with us.

Condos and residential buildings. We send you our therapist’s full name in advance, so you can register her with reception, security or the gatehouse. This is common in gated areas like Playacar.

We respect every property’s rules. Sometimes guests at resorts that don’t allow outside therapists ask us to come in as their friends or visitors. We don’t do that. We only enter as what we are: a professional massage service. That’s why we always ask you to confirm the access policy first.

Our advice: before booking, ask your hotel, building or host one question: “Can an outside massage therapist come to my room?” If the answer is yes, ask whether they need the therapist’s name in advance.

How we keep every session hygienic

Hygiene is not something we leave to chance. These are the rules our team follows in every session:

  • Double table cover. Our tables have two protective covers, and one of them is changed for every client, so you never touch a cover someone else used.
  • Face cradle protection. The face rest has its own cover plus a clean towel, so your face never touches the table surface.
  • Professional oils. We use hypoallergenic, pharmaceutical-grade oils that are gentle on the skin.
  • Hand washing. Every therapist washes her hands before and after each service.

Room, terrace or by the pool?

We can work outdoors, but the best spot is usually a cool, ventilated and preferably covered space. When the temperature is pleasant, you enjoy the oils, the sheets and every movement much more, without feeling too hot or sweaty.

What we can’t do is a massage on the sand of a public beach. Beaches in Mexico are federal zones with rules on commercial services, so we don’t offer sessions there.

A quiet, private room or a shaded terrace where your therapist can move freely around the table is perfect. We adapt to each villa, as long as we can keep the conditions for a real spa experience.

The most common booking mistakes

After years of sessions in villas and hotels, these are the mistakes we see most often, and they’re all easy to avoid.

1. Not confirming access with your hotel or building. It’s the number one reason a session gets delayed or canceled. Check the policy before booking.

2. Choosing a technique without knowing what it does. Each massage has different goals, movements and pressure levels. If you’re not sure whether you need a relaxing, deep tissue or therapeutic massage, ask us before booking. We’ll help you choose based on how you feel and what you expect.

3. Not telling your therapist what pressure you like. Even with the right technique, say whether you prefer soft, medium or firm pressure. You can also tell your therapist during the session, and she’ll adjust it right away.

4. Not sharing your exact location. Send your exact address, the name of your villa or building, and any access notes. It lets us plan every detail and arrive on time.

From one villa to 200 guests

Most of our sessions are for one person or a couple. But one of the experiences I’m proudest of was very different: an event with around 200 guests, where we coordinated a team of 15 therapists to give short head, hand and foot massages of 5 to 8 minutes per person.

The demand was so high that many guests wanted a second turn. The real challenge was organizing the whole team in a limited space, keeping a steady flow of people, maintaining hygiene between every service, and making sure that even in a few minutes each person could truly disconnect.

With planning and a committed team, everything ran smoothly. It showed us we can bring wellness to anything from a private villa to a large event. If you’re planning a group stay or a celebration, see our group massage promotion.

Your pre-arrival checklist

  • Confirm that your hotel, building or host allows an outside massage therapist.
  • Send us your exact address and the therapist’s access details (name for the gate or front desk).
  • Choose a cool, quiet space of about 2 × 2 meters per table.
  • Take a shower and wait in a robe or towel.
  • Tell us if you have any health condition, injury or allergy to oils or scents.
  • Decide what pressure you prefer: soft, medium or firm.

FAQ

Can two people get a massage at the same time?

Yes. For a couples massage we bring two tables and two therapists, so you both enjoy a full session side by side. Plan for about 2 × 2 meters per table. See our couples massage.

What happens if my hotel doesn’t allow outside therapists?

We respect each property’s rules and don’t enter as visitors, so please check before booking. If your hotel doesn’t allow it, we can’t provide the session there.

Do I need to provide towels or sheets?

No. We bring the table, clean linens, oils and everything else. You only need the space.

How far in advance should I book?

At least 5 hours ahead for most massages. Couples and group promotions need 24 hours, and signature experiences need 48 hours.

Can I have my massage on the beach?

Not on the sand of a public beach, because of federal rules on commercial services. A shaded terrace or a cool room in your villa works best.

What should I wear?

Wait in a robe or towel. During the massage you lie on the table in your underwear, fully covered with sheets except for the area being worked on. Your therapist leaves the room while you get ready.
